Nagpur: Anil Lahoti, General manager of Central Railways (CR), said on Friday that the enforcement branch has intensified action against passengers without tickets or regular tickets in the Nagpur division between the months of April and October this year. Meanwhile, 29 lakh ticketless passengers have also been caught and Rs 194 crore has been recovered from them as a fine. He has also said that during the same period last year, Rs 93 crore had been collected as a fine.

Anil Lahoti, who inspected the section from Itarsi to Parashia during the day, has told the media that GPS-enabled gangmen are deployed at night to monitor the tracks during winter. “We are using ultrasonic techniques to detect fractures, fissures, and defects on tracks during night time during winters. Since GPS technology has also been provided to the gangmen, their movements are being tracked and monitored from the central control room.” So has the General Manager who has inspected various infrastructural and operational aspects.

He appreciated the Nagpur division for earning a revenue of Rs 150 crore through the transportation of about three lakh tonnes of parcels. “CR has loaded and transported 44 million tonnes of consignments between April and October this year. More than 50% of the same consignment was loaded by the Nagpur division,” said the GM adding that 40 crores from non-fare revenue.

Nagpur and Ajni railway stations will be integrated with Mahametro stations

The General Manager has also said that the Nagpur Railway Station Redevelopment Master Plan, with a budget of Rs 488 crore, will be completed within 36 months. “The 108-meter-wide concourse at the newly designed Nagpur railway station will significantly reduce platform congestion,” Lahoti said adding that he also did the speed test.

According to the General Manager, the master plan for the redevelopment of Ajni station will be completed in 40 months at a cost of Rs 298 crore. Nagpur and Ajni railway stations will be integrated with Mahametro stations in the coming years, Lahoti said adding that Railway Board is also considering other major proposals for the Maha metro.

Lahoti has also said that he is fully satisfied with the 130 kmph speed test on Itarsi and Amla sections.

The GM has also said that the Central Railway has sought Rs 4,000 crore from the Railway Board for infrastructure works in the financial year 2022-23.
