After 10 years drop-out returns, tops in night schools

With his father, the sole breadwinner of his family, having become disabled, the responsibility of running the household fell on young Shubham's shoulders.

Nagpur: More than a decade ago, Shubham Gour (28) was studying in Class X at Govardhandas Rawal High School, but in the year 2010-11, he could not appear in the SSC exam at all, when his father met with an accident.

With his father, the sole breadwinner of his family, having become disabled, the responsibility of running the household fell on young Shubham’s shoulders. And being the eldest son, Shubham also took up a small job in MIDC Hingna to complete the education of his younger brother and sister as well as to meet the basic needs of the family.

On Friday, destiny rewarded them for their sacrifice 12 years ago as Shubham came out topper among night school students with close to 70% marks.

Meanwhile, his sister has completed her MBA while his brother has done B.Com and has joined them as a sales executive in an automobile firm. As all three siblings are also earning and supporting their parents, Shubham has also said that he also wants to pursue B.Com and MBA.

Rufaida is disillusioned with schooling and has decided to pursue

Among other night school students, Rufaida Begum (20), who dropped out of Class VIII in 2015, has topped among girls in night schools with around 62%.

Both Shubham and Rufaida are students of Shri Shivaji Night School.

Rufaida is disillusioned with schooling and has decided to pursue alima (religious studies) course for the last five years. And after completing the Alima course, she returned to schooling and passed her Class IX examination. She wants to become a doctor now.

The pass percentage of Tajbaba Night School and Jawahar Night School is around 91% each. While Saraswati Night School has 83% and Nagpur Night has 63%. Mr. Shivaji Knight has scored 41%.
