So far 30 objections to cutting trees on Amravati Road

Nagpur: On the orders of Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, citizens have raised a lot of objections to the felling of about 126 trees between Bhole Petrol Pump Square and Campus Square.

He has also raised a lot of questions on the public notice of the civic body in which it was said that the trees were almost less than 50 years old. The city’s environment lovers have also pointed out that according to the amended Maharashtra Conservation (Urban Areas) and Tree Protection Act 1975. There is a dire need to make the total number of these trees that have been cut public in one go and not just in parts. He has said that please give complete clarity on this project also.

Citizens who have lodged objections have also appealed to this department to give prior notice of a public hearing.

According to the notice issued recently by the Horticulture Department of NMC also, A fly-over and a service road are also being constructed to reduce the traffic congestion on this route. The Sub-Divisional Engineer of the Public Works Department (PWD) has also sought permission to cut these trees.

According to the civic body, the trees belong to different species including neem, shisham, peepal, holy fig and many others. According to these notices, the age of the trees is between 6-49 years.
