Farmer killing by tiger in Chimur range

On Friday morning, the body of a farmer Devidas Gaikwad was found in his field just near Sonegaon Bege village of Chimur tehsil.

Chandrapur: With the killing of another farmer by a tiger on Friday, the number of hunters attacks in this district this year has gone 38. District Chandrapur has the highest death toll in hunter-gatherer attacks in any year. The previous high of human killings was 31 in the past year itself.

On Friday morning, the body of a farmer Devidas Gaikwad was found in his field just near Sonegaon Bege village of Chimur tehsil.

On Thursday morning Chimur range, RFO, US Naitam has also said that farmer Devidas Gaikwad had gone to his own farm on the outskirts of the village. But he did not return to his house in the evening. In the evening, his family went to the field in search of him, but he was not found in the dark. When they started the search again on Friday morning, then many parts of his mutilated body were found scattered in the field.

Forest Workers Installed Camera Trap

On receipt of the information, the team of forest personnel of Chimur range reached the spot, and then after the interrogation formalities, his body was taken out for postmortem. Sources have also claimed that the tiger had severed the head and its limbs apart from the torso.

Forest workers have installed camera traps in the area to identify the tiger responsible for the killing. And also warned the people there to be fully alert while working alone in the fields. Forest officials have paid ex-gratia assistance of about Rs 25,000 to the family members of Gaikwad.

This is the 38th homicide in this district in hunter attacks. Of these, tigers have claimed around 33 victims, Leopards have killed 4, and 1 is an elephant.
