Indian Space Research Organisation test of Solar Group’s rocket motor unit successful

ISRO in its tweet on Thursday said that the first PSOM XL motor, which forms the PS0 stage of PSLVE-XL, has been tested and the performance is satisfactory.

Nagpur: The rocket motor manufactured by Nagpur Economic Explosives Limited (EEL), a subsidiary of Solar Group, has been completed and successfully tested by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). It also marks the beginning of end-to-end production of the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicles (PSLV) through a private sector industry.

ISRO in its tweet on Thursday said that the first PSOM XL motor, which forms the PS0 stage of PSLVE-XL, has been tested and the performance is satisfactory.

“ISRO transferred the technology to EEL in the year 2019. And with today’s test, the industry’s capability to produce the PSO stage for Polar Satellite Launch Vehicles has been established. It is also the first step towards full production of PSLV through the industry.” Tweet says.

Indian Space Research Organisation had launched the country’s first rocket

The PSOM motor, also made by EEL, is also attached to the PSLV and helps in achieving additional altitude or in carrying more payload in the launch vehicle. Even though the PS0 is the main engine, strap-on units have been determined to provide additional push as well. A source close to the project also said that six such units could be attached to the PSLV.

“The product was developed by EEL after the transfer of technology. The company delivered the first batch of these units in the month of July. One of the units has been statically tested and the results were satisfactory, the source also said and added, further units would be supplied in due course. These units are important in launch vehicles as they are helpful in achieving the desired altitude or payload,” the source said.

Earlier, the Indian Space Research Organisation had launched the country’s first rocket made by private industry. It was developed by Solar Group and Hyderabad-based startup Skyroot. Named Vikram S, it is a sub-orbital rocket. Solar Group provided the propellant for the rocket which is also essential to take it upwards.
