Standing panel accepts 6 road works, 5 are in BJP wards

Nagpur: With the municipal elections approaching, the BJP-ruled Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has gone ahead with a thorough strengthening of roads in the constituencies represented by the party’s councilors.

On Wednesday, the standing committee of Nagpur Municipal Corporation has fully approved six road works, Out of which five are in the wards represented by the councilors of the Bharatiya Janata Party.

According to the proposals submitted by the city administration, road works worth more than Rs 11.88 crore have been approved by the permanent panel led by Prakash Bhoyar on Wednesday.

For a period of 4 months to Rs 1.67 lakh, the panel also approved the proposal for extension of the tenure of Project Management Consultant for Nag River Rejuvenation Scheme Mohammed Israil of General Administration Department.

Two of the road construction works are also located in the division of Deputy Mayor Manisha Dhawade. While Bhushan Shingne, former trustee of Nagpur Improvement Trust and senior Bharatiya Janata Party councilor, former permanent panel chairman and former deputy mayor Sandip Jadhav was represented in the division by another Bharatiya Janata Party councilor and chairman of the transport committee, Jitendra Kukde.

The shortlisted road in Jitendra’s division is located opposite the house of campti MLA Tekchand Sawarkar (BJP).

The Standing Panel has approved over Rs 1.17 crore for two roads in the division of Manisha.

Tar roads selected for concretization

Earlier on the date of January 5, the panel of permanent had also approved five projects in the division represented by Mayor Dayashankar Tiwari.

In today’s meeting, the panel has also given its approval for getting eight roads covered with asphalt, Those already selected for conversion to Cement Concreteization Phase-I. For this, the panel has approved the proposal of the project department to set aside about Rs 9.62 crore.

Sources also said that with a weak opposition and the Bharatiya Janata Party majority, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation is also focusing on strengthening the roads under the influence of members of the ruling party. Most of the roads will have a makeover before the municipal elections.

The sources also informed that the tar roads which were selected for concretization in Phase-I, are still not completed at all and have been overlooked for the past decade. As the elections are approaching, The ruling party has woken up from its deep sleep.

He said that Prakash, however, denied any injustice and also claimed that earlier some road works were approved in the divisions of the councilors of the opposition camp. More works will also be sanctioned in the near future.
