Husband ends his life by slitting throat of wife, daughter

Nagpur: 42-year-old Vilas Gawte committed suicide by slitting the throat of his wife Ranjana (35) and daughter Amruta alias Ankita (10) with a sharp weapon in Sarodi Mohalla near Rajiv Nagar in the early hours of Saturday.

A 12-year-old son Tejas, who was sleeping with his mother and sister, has been spared.

The police have also said that Vilas Gawte, who was mentally disturbed but not undergoing treatment at all, had probably already killed his wife and then killed his daughter in a similar manner. After this he had also used a rope, Which was used to tie cows in the house, to die by suicide. Police officials have not found any suicide note of any kind. Gawte has also sold milk for a living. In the month of December, Vilas Gawte had married his eldest daughter.

After Tejas got up, this matter has come to the fore. He was completely stunned to see the blood pouring out of his mother’s throat. Tejas ran to his uncle Ganpat to beg for help by staying in the next room. The hanging body of Vilas Gawte was later found on the premises.

Accidental death against the deceased

Senior Inspector Umesh Besarkar of MIDC police station has said that Vilas Gawte was unstable in nature and he often used to threaten the family a lot.

The inspector has said that the family members used to settle disputes well among themselves but never contacted the police. They have also come to know from family sources that Vilas Gawte has had a lot of fights with family members and neighbors as well. He used to avoid others.

Umesh Besarkar has said that he feels that Vilas Gawte had purchased the knife with pre-planning and then kept it at home.

The MIDC police have registered a case of accidental death against the deceased Vilas Gawte for murder and his suicide.
