Legislative assembly should solve small issues which are big concern for citizens

In spite of my continuous follow-up action including a PIL in the Bombay High Court, there is absolutely no logical solution as of now with regard to fire safety standards for much older buildings.

The Legislative Assembly always takes up the most important issues most of the time but often leaves out the minor issues affecting a large number of citizens. I want that such issues should be discussed in the public interest and this winter session of the Vidhansabha should also be completed.

In spite of my continuous follow-up action including a PIL in the Bombay High Court, there is absolutely no logical solution as of now with regard to fire safety standards for much older buildings. It has also given birth to many groups of activists over time, many of whom also resort to blackmailing. A government resolution could eliminate this issue altogether.

A few years ago, an ex parte order in a suo motu PIL in the Nagpur bench of the Bombay high court prohibited construction activities from around 8 pm to 8 am because the respondent State could not file the reply at all. Whereas the Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules, 2000 very clearly prohibits construction work between 10 pm and 6 am, The state government should clarify the same issue through a notification.

Tree felling rules have been made so complicated and draconian

The decision to give industrial status to hotels has remained only on paper considering the damage done during the Covid pandemic. Obstacles coming in its implementation should also be removed.

Though Local Body Tax (LBT) was also abolished, its assessment is still causing difficulties for many taxpayers. The amnesty scheme announced in 2015 could not address many traders at all. Proper amnesty should be introduced to eliminate Local Body Tax.

In the year 2020, the tree felling rules have been made so complicated and draconian that it really discourages citizens like me from planting trees on my property. Trees are very important but they should not be a hindrance to legitimate development at all. Balancing these two sides, the process should also be simplified. We have recently lost a prestigious IMS project at Ajni.
