Stray dog ​​thrashed, tooth broken, eye popped out, bloodied death

Nagpur: In a barbaric incident, a retired Border Security Forces (BSF) jawan brutally thrashed a dog with a heavy stick, due to which it lost its teeth and lost one eye. And the beating continued even after the dog was bleeding profusely as the animal had entered his residential premises. The dog later died during treatment at the shelter.

The incident took place on Thursday afternoon at Ekdant Apartment in Ganesh Puri Nagar, Koradi. The accused Arjun Chandan Batve saw the dog on the third floor and started beating him with a very big stick. Hearing the cries of this animal, the woman living in the apartment tried hard to stop the man but in vain. “Despite bleeding profusely, he kept on beating the poor animal. Even after doing this, he did not stop. He tied both his legs, dragged the dog from the third floor to the ground floor, and carried it away.” residents said.

One of the residents also contacted animal activist Karishma Galani, who is also a member of the Nagpur-based Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA). “The residents weren’t quite sure where the dog had been taken, so our volunteers started looking for it. Finally, around 11 o’clock, we found the animal in a terrible condition, tied to the bushes and lying in a pool of blood,” Galani said.

The workers immediately took the injured dog to a private hospital. Then after treatment, he was shifted to an animal shelter, But on Friday morning, he succumbed to his very serious injuries. The residents have also said that the accused had absolutely no motive to kill the animal. “The dog was not a threat to us. The security guard of the building also helped the accused in transporting the injured animal,” he said.

Karishma Galani, along with activist Akash Baleja, approached the police to register a First Information Report against both Batve and watchman Ashok Bele under sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1960.

After this angry animal lovers demanded justice for the dog. “The accused should have been arrested under sections 428, and 429 but surprisingly he was not put behind the bars.” They said. Police officers are investigating the matter and taking statements from eyewitnesses.

Angered by the inaction, Galani said, “Our laws impose a fine of around Rs 200 on animal feeding, but what is the punishment for such cruelty? A fine of only Rs 50.”
