ST bus washed away, one dead, conductor, driver, one passenger missing

A Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) bus was crossing a bridge over a creek in Dahegaon village of Yavatmal district between Umarkhed and Pusad in the early hours of Tuesday and the bus was swept away.

Mulla and rivers in the district are in spate due to heavy rains since the last two days. And the sources said that the bus MH 14/BT-5018 of city Nagpur depot was going from Nanded to Nagpur city. When the bus reached Dahegaon village, about 8 km from Umarkhed. Then the bus driver did not care at all about the overflowing bridge on the drain and reportedly decided to take the bus in that flood water. But at that time the bus had lost all control and on one side. The bus fell and got swept away in the drain.

Driver, Conductor and one passenger are Missing

Sources have said that around 7-8 people including the operator. And the driver of the bus were in the bus and 2 passengers stuck to a tree. And while 2 others climbed on the bus. The District Collector. whose name is Amol Yedge, has said that, “One body has also been recovered, while a passenger. Conductor and driver have been reported missing.”

Police and Tehsildar from Umarkhed reached the spot and are keeping a close watch on the rescue operation. The Divisional Controller, whose name is Avinash Rajurkar, has also confirmed the incident and said that. Rescue operation is going on right now.

Collector Yege has told that all the rivers in the district are in spate. And even the dams have been filled up to 100 percent. He has urged all the people not to go into the overflow drain or flood water. And also he said that everyone who lives on the banks of those rivers, be careful.
