YIL to make aircraft parts

Yantra India Limited is also a Nagpur-headquartered PSU, Which was formed in the month of October last year only after the corporatization of Ordnance Factories.

Nagpur: A former Ordnance Factory, YIL is looking to manufacture aircraft parts as well, mostly manufacturing shells and cartridges for the Army.

Yantra India Limited is also a Nagpur-headquartered PSU, Which was formed in the month of October last year only after the corporatization of Ordnance Factories. The erstwhile Ordnance Factory Ambazari falls under Yantra India Limited apart from seven other units.

The company is in talks with HAL to manufacture parts for both rotary winged and fixed aircraft.

Sources have said that talks have also been started with another private aeronautics company. Yantra India Limited also has a very good capability of manufacturing the parts for the body of the aircraft as well as the internal parts.

Yantra India Limited is also looking for orders beyond the items that the factory has traditionally made. The company has got an order of about Rs 150 crore to manufacture axles for the Railways. Sources have also said that the Railways is also eyeing a huge order of Rs 450 crore to make the axle.

Company Plans Turnover Company Rs 3,000 crore

Sources have also said that the ordnance factories also have the technology and machinery to make tracked wheels, Even the same area is being targeted. If it works out, then the deal will give an additional business of around Rs 1,000 crore over a period of two years. With whichever company Yantra India Limited is in talks, They are completely dependent on imports mainly to procure the tracked wheels.

It is also learned that the company plans to take the turnover of the company to around Rs 3,000 crore in about two to three years. Presently, as a corporate entity, it is looking for trade-in defense as well as export of existing products.

Presently, the major items manufactured by Yantra India Limited are also about 155 mm Bofors artillery shells. Apart from developing improved versions of the system, it is also building the Pinaka rocket.
