Evidence Calendar will be investigated in 90 cases of murder: Amitesh

Elaborate exercises have been conducted to ensure that murder cases end in conviction and the accused remain behind bars for the longest period of time.

Nagpur: The city’s police chief (CP) whose name is Amitesh Kumar. According to his latest instructions, the ‘calendar of evidence’ or the content of evidence will be evaluated by certain ranks of supervisory officers in about 90 murders in the city.

And the decision of the top cop came after his observation during his visit to the police station that the accused in several sensitive murder cases were out on bail within a short period of time.

In a separate development, the city police have made the city’s ‘murder hotspots’ ready to be identified as those places. Where incidents of murder have happened more and more often than in other places. According to the CP, there is a different set of preventive strategies and techniques to check the killings at these hotspots.

Patna and Nagpur had the worst murder rates in the country, According to the latest data released by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) for the year 2019.

Amitesh has instructed these police stations to prepare a calendar of evidence in each case of murder. And the documents will be scrutinized by the supervisory officers at various levels. After which they will be sent to the top cop for necessary amendments and final evaluation of the evidence collected.

Accused Bail Conditions

The top cop has said that the second objective of this exercise is to ensure that the bail applications of the accused are thoroughly opposed and then rejected. Amitesh has also said that the murder accused is expected to remain in judicial custody for as long as possible. The challenge is to fight the bail and put him behind the bars.

The chief of police has said that the bail conditions of the accused should also be kept very close. And as soon as there is a breach of bail conditions, then it should be brought to the notice of the court and then the order should also be quashed.

To stop these killings, most notably at hotspots, Amitesh has said that the police will also organize aggressive community interactions at such places and then increase police visibility and juvenile management strategies involving these families.

He has also said that the evidence in the FIR should also be followed. Care should also be taken to ensure that the collected evidence is not tampered with.

Vijay Kohle, the former lawyer for the district government, has said that crime scene management and the security of witnesses are the two most important aspects for a conviction.
