Garbage is not being picked up from homes everyday, 55 corporators told panel

The Nagpur municipal corporation administration has also informed the committee that around 163 trucks belonging to two operators were apprehended by the nuisance detection squad for bringing garbage along with stones and sand to the Bhandewadi dumping yard.

Nagpur: Out of about 87 corporators who appeared before the committee that looked into the services of BVG India Ltd and AG Enviro Infra Projects Private Ltd, 55 (63%) confirmed that both the operators do not pick up garbage at all on a daily basis. Whereas 32 have claimed that the services were fully justified.

The committee headed by ruling party leader Avinash Thakre presented the report before the general body on Tuesday.

On January 29, GB will take a decision on terminating the contract with both the operators.

The committee has also invited all these 156 corporators of Nagpur municipal corporation to give details. Out of these, about 106 councilors have appeared. The committee has also asked in writing whether the operators pick up the garbage daily. But 19 corporators did not give their opinion at all.

The two operators have also said that services are fine in about 95 percent of the areas and measures are being taken to improve work in the remaining areas.

Garbage collection from households

The Nagpur municipal corporation administration has informed the committee that two operators have so far been fined about Rs 2.08 crore for improper services.

On June 28, 2020, Vikas Thakre, MLA of West Nagpur, caught one of the two operators red-handed while mixing soil with garbage at two places in South Nagpur. And then, Congress’ city president Thakre also exposed it by unloading mud and garbage from trucks inside the Bhandewadi yard.

The committee had also cited this disclosure of Thakre and the fine imposed by the Nagpur municipal corporation. The administration also informed the committee that about 163 such trucks have also been apprehended by the squad which tracked the disturbances.

Nagpur municipal corporation Additional Municipal Commissioner Ram Joshi in the report had suggested NMC give one more chance to the two operators citing legal battle over it and the possibility of financial loss.

After the completion of the Kanak Resources Management Limited, on the date of November 16, 2019, Nagpur municipal corporation has also engaged BVG India for zone 6 to 10 and AG Enviro for zone 1 to 5 for the separate methods of garbage collection from all households, commercial and other establishments. And they are being taken to Bhandewadi dumping yard. Firms were awarded contracts for about 10 years at higher rates than KRML.
