Nagpur municipal corporation officials took gifts from contractor, returned them

In a press release, Jammu has said that the owners of companies that have created fake files and forged contracts have gifted costly electronic items to several top officials in order not to make the scam public at all.

Nagpur: Sangh leader Jammu Anand has alleged that several officials of the NMC accepted expensive gifts from contractor Padmakar Sakode, the main accused in the fake contract scam, to hide irregularities. And then later it has come back after coming out in the open. Congress councilor Kamlesh Chaudhary has also demanded the removal of Bharatiya Janata Party councilor Sandip Jadhav from the inquiry committee.

After the scam became public, the authorities had to return the gift. These officers still work in the NMC (Nagpur Municipal Corporation) and can influence the investigation. Because of this, he should be thrown out for conducting the investigation in a transparent manner.

Jammu has also said that the general body of the Nagpur Municipal Corporation has also tried to protect the top officials too much. The general body has the power to direct the registration of an FIR against the officers. But it has passed a resolution to conduct investigation by forming only one committee. Nothing has been done at all in the last one and a half months.

Referred to state government for proper investigation

Kamlesh, in a letter to city commissioner Radhakrishnan B, has said that Sandip was the chairman of the standing committee in the year 2017-18. During his tenure the rate contracts of the firms related to Padmakar were approved. And at the same time he should be removed from its inquiry committee. It has already been proved that this scam is about more than Rs 21 crore. The matter should be referred to the state government for proper investigation.

Vikas Thakre, Congress city president, has met Urban Development Minister Eknath Shinde and demanded a probe at the government level.
