One village was selected from each Vidarbha district to increase farm income
Also as part of the plan, a village-level Agricultural Technology Information Center at Kidangipar under the Gondia Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) was inaugurated by Panjabrao Deshmukh Krishi Vidyapeeth Vice Chancellor Sharad Gadakh last week.
Nagpur: Akola-based PDKV has identified 11 model villages in each of the 11 districts of Vidarbha. Where agriculture and allied services will be implemented along with integrated farming system to increase the income of farmers.
Also as part of the plan, a village-level Agricultural Technology Information Center at Kidangipar under the Gondia Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) was inaugurated by Panjabrao Deshmukh Krishi Vidyapeeth Vice Chancellor Sharad Gadakh last week. This is also one of the first villages where the model scheme is going to run.
Gadakh has also said that Kidangipar will be made a model village through KVK Gondia. The IFS model will be developed at the village level. “Ten units each of vermicompost, dairy, poultry, goat rearing, sericulture, compost unit, plastic mulching, drip irrigation, natural farming unit, etc. will be developed. Crop competitions will be organized among farmers and prizes will be given in the future,” They said.
Syed Shakir Ali, Senior Scientist & Head KVK, Gondia said: “After a survey, the needs of farmers and thrust areas have been identified. Depending on the thrust area, various activities have been initiated and have been carried out in the coming Kharif season.
Project plans to reward farmers for adopting
According to the plan, the cooperation of all departments will be obtained in increasing farmer training, taking advantage of the scheme, and setting up processing units. “It’s a three-year plan. Then later it will be taken up at the taluka level and then at the block level. The aim of the project is to prevent farmer suicides due to crop failure. We are also encouraging them to choose multiple sources of income,” they said.
Ali has said about this that at present paddy is the main crop in Gondia, But if farmers opt for vegetables and poultry then their income is going to increase.
The project also plans to reward farmers for adopting new technologies.
Under front-line demonstration programme, seeds of paddy variety PDKV Sakoli Red Rice-1 have been distributed by KVK, Hiwara Gondia also under the Tribal Sub Plan (TSP) of ICAR-Atari, Pune.
