Villagers stalled Bhoomi Puja of Takli-Bellora mine project

Aurobindo Reality and Infrastructure Pvt Ltd are bidding to start mining on 128 hectares of land already in possession of the company.

Chandrapur: Project-affected villagers foiled the plan of M/s Aurobindo Reality and Infrastructure Pvt Ltd (ARIPL), the lessee of Takli-Jena-Bellora (North) and Takli-Jena-Bellora (South) coal blocks in Bhadravati taluka, to secretly organize the foundation stone laying ceremony of the mining project.

Aurobindo Reality and Infrastructure Pvt Ltd are bidding to start mining on 128 hectares of land already in possession of the company. Before formally initiating dialogue with the stakeholders of 11 villages to be affected by the opencast-cum-underground mining project.

The villagers are firm that mining can be started only after the resettlement and development of the affected villages and the finalization of rates for land and jobs to the project-affected persons.

A total of 11 villages under six-gram panchayats Jena, Kadoli-Kiloni, Panwadala, Panvadala, Takli-Bellora, Kansa, and Dongargaon are going to be affected by the two mines of Aurobindo Reality and Infrastructure Pvt Ltd. The company has obtained consent for land acquisition and subsequent mining after holding a public hearing on June 21. The company is going to acquire 936 hectares of land from 11 villages.

Company officials had planned the foundation stone-laying ceremony of the mining project at the site on October 23 without informing the villagers. However, villagers smelled the company’s plan and soon hundreds of stakeholders gathered at the site. Panvadala sarpanch Pradeep Mahakulkar, Bellora sarpanch Sangita Deharkar, deputy sarpanch Pravin Badurkar, Bhatali sarpanch Sudhakar Rohankar led the villagers and stalled the program.

The protesters warned that they would not allow the mining project to begin. Unless the company officials interact positively with the villagers on the development, rehabilitation, land rates, and jobs of the project-affected people. Sensing trouble, company executives shelved their plans to hold the groundbreaking ceremony and left the site.
