Mercury rises 0.5 degree Celsius, alert of cold wave in Nagpur today

Nagpur: After recording the coldest night of this winter at 8 degrees Celsius on Sunday, the minimum temperature in Nagpur has marginally increased by 0.5 degree Celsius on Monday.

The Meteorological Department has also issued a cold wave alert for Nagpur, Gondia and Yavatmal districts on Tuesday.

On Monday, when the minimum temperature of the city was 8.5 degree Celsius, which was almost four notches above normal, the maximum temperature had reached 29.6 degree Celsius.

Gondia district was the coldest in Vidarbha with a minimum temperature of around seven degrees Celsius. Nagpur was the second coldest place along with Yavatmal, where the temperature has also been recorded at 8.5 degree Celsius.

As per the forecast by the Regional Meteorological Center (RMC), Nagpur, the city’s minimum mercury level is expected to rise significantly after the date of January 10.

Person should be made to lie down in a hot place

In its cold wave warning, the Meteorological Department has also advised citizens to stay indoors as much as possible and try to minimize travel to avoid exposure to extremely cold air.

“Watch for frostbite symptoms such as numbness, a white or pale appearance on the fingers, toes, ear lobes and tip of the nose. Douse the areas affected by frostbite in warm water,” the warning stated.

It has further been said that in case of hypothermia, the person should be made to lie down in a very hot place and his clothes should also be changed. “Warm the person sufficiently with skin-to-skin contact and cover with dry layers of blankets, clothing, towels, or sheets. And also give warm drinks to help raise the body temperature. Do not give alcohol Seek immediate medical attention if condition worsens,” the warning stated.
