Heavy rains on Vidarbha, Marathwada in Fadnavis’s budget

Mumbai: Maharashtra’s 2023-23 budget, presented by Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday, has showered gifts on the backward regions of Vidarbha and Marathwada. Those who have been neglected for years. However, many of the projects and schemes mentioned by him had been announced earlier as well.

The Deputy CM has provided funds to farmers in both areas for projects ranging from irrigation to wildlife and education. And Vidarbha in particular and Nagpur in general seem to have received most of the wealth.

Presenting his first budget, The MLA from south-west Nagpur has also announced that farmers in both Vidarbha and Marathwada regions will get Rs 1,800 in cash per year in lieu of food grains in 14 disaster-affected districts. He has allocated Rs 160 crore for dairy development in 11 districts of these two regions.

He also said that the monsoon runoff from the Wainganga basin would be diverted to the drought-prone areas of Amravati, Yavatmal, Nagpur, Wardha, Akola, Buldhana and Washim districts of Vidarbha through the Wainganga-Nalganga-Painganga interlinking project.

Revised administrative approval for about Rs 11,626 crore

He has also said that various programs will be organized on the occasion of Marathwada Mukti Sangram Amrit Mahotsav year and adequate funds will be made available for this.

To solve the ongoing problem of irrigation and drinking water in Marathwada, Fadnavis has also said that the process has been started for the construction of primary, secondary and tertiary water grids. And also the proposal of Marathwada Water Grid had been sent to the Central Government for approval under ‘Har Ghar Jal’ scheme.

He also announced that the Krishna-Marathwada Irrigation Project, which will benefit 133 villages in Dharashiv and Beed districts, has been given revised administrative approval for about Rs 11,626 crore.

The Deputy CM has also said that the Center will be requested to approve the Tapi Maharecharge Project, which is important for the irrigation of West Vidarbha and North Maharashtra.
