NMC to seek help from NIT for repair of 60k square meter potholed roads
Roads owned by the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) are in a dilapidated condition with potholes and the civic body needs at least a fortnight to repair about 60,000 square meters of bad roads across the city.

Now the Nagpur Municipal Corporation has sought the help of Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT) for speedy repair of these potholed roads. Municipal Commissioner Radhakrishnan B has told that Nagpur Municipal Corporation will give money to Nagpur Improvement Trust for this work. He said that the Nagpur Municipal Corporation will repair all the potholed roads in the entire city before the end of the month of November.
There are roads up to about 3642.08km inside the city. Apart from the NMC, 3 other agencies – the NIT, the state’s Public Works Department and the National Highways Authority of India – are also responsible for the maintenance of all these roads. Nagpur Municipal Corporation has roads up to 2482.94km. NHAI Nagpur has about 29.80km while PWD and Nagpur Improvement Trust have 148.02km and 965.320km respectively.
This hotmix plant of NMC at Hingna MIDC is very old and has a capacity of about 30 tonnes per hour. The batchmix plant of Nagpur Improvement Trust can easily handle the work with a capacity of around 80 to 100 tonnes per hour.
NMC Tar Road Work
Sources have also told that the Nagpur Municipal Corporation takes up the work of these tar roads. With a cost of around Rs 100 crore every year. Due to the low capacity of its Hotmix plant. Nagpur Municipal Corporation has been able to undertake asphalt or pothole repair work worth only Rs 5 crore. Major works are being done with the help of private contractors.
Due to the rain, moisture has come under all these roads. Superintending Engineer Ajay Pohekar has said that even if we do the work of asphaltization now, then this road will deteriorate very soon. At least a fortnight of dry days is very much needed before starting the work.
Meanwhile, Mayor Dayashankar Tiwari has organized a special general meeting on 13 October on the proposal of re-appropriation of about Rs 41.50 crore. In the Nagpur Municipal Corporation budget to approve additional funds required to repair all these bad roads.
The Standing Committee meeting held recently had approved re-appropriation of about Rs 41.50 crore to improve the deteriorating condition of all these tar roads. And for this the amount was deducted from about 12 items.
The NMC has claimed that Laxmi Nagar zone repaired 16 potholes and 24 Dharampeth zone on Friday. While Lakarganj zone and Hanuman Nagar repaired 18 and 36 potholes respectively.
