Nagpur Municipal Corporation recovers Rs 14 lakh fine from BVG India
Out of about Rs 14 lakh, about Rs 3 lakh has been recovered from the strike.
Nagpur: Tightening the noose on BVG India, a door-to-door garbage collection agency in five zones, Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has imposed a fine of about Rs 14 lakh on strike and irregular service.
Out of about Rs 14 lakh, about Rs 3 lakh has been recovered from the strike. While about Rs 11 lakh has been deducted from the monthly payment for the month of October for failure to pick up garbage from different areas, additional municipal commissioner Ram Joshi said.
NMC had engaged AG Enviro (for Zones 1 to 5) and BVG India (for Zones 6-10) in November 2019 for door-to-door garbage collection and transportation of waste from the city to the Bhandewadi dumping yard. AG Enviro has paid the highest-ever fine.
As per the data received from the solid waste management department of Nagpur Municipal Corporation, Both these firms have been punished more than 37 times in different cases, Including a very poor collection of waste, irregular collection services, malpractices, and workers’ strikes. Together, these two companies have paid a fine of more than Rs 3.51 crore.
Data shows that the NMC punished BVG India
Ag Enviro firm has paid over Rs 1.78 crore as a fine, Whereas around Rs, 1.58 crore of BVG India has been deducted from its own payment as a fine.
Taking a closer look at the finer figures, it is also revealed that AG Enviro had also paid the highest fine of Rs 27 lakh in May 2020 after it was caught mixing sand and boulders in the garbage to gain weight. When the whole country was under lockdown due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
The data also shows that the Nagpur Municipal Corporation punished BVG India when its workers resorted to strike on four occasions. While AG Enviro was penalized only once for this, its employees also stopped work on several occasions.
