Maharashtra government will study ‘love jihad’ laws of other states: Devendra Fadnavis

Nagpur: Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said on Tuesday that the Maharashtra government will study the laws on ‘Love Jihad’ made by other states and take appropriate decisions.

“We have also given full assurance (to the House) that various states have laws on love jihad and we are going to study them as well. And along with this, on the basis of this, our government is also going to take appropriate decisions so that no woman or girl becomes a victim of any conspiracy,” Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said. He has also said in the assembly that a strict law is being demanded on “Love Jihad”.

Earlier in the day, while speaking in the House, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis also said that the state government is not at all against inter-religious marriages. “But over time it has also been felt that there is a plan as part of the conspiracy. Such marriages are also taking place in large numbers in some districts,” he said. Devendra Fadnavis has also said that an inter-faith committee headed by a minister will track and maintain records of inter-faith marriages, married couples, and their families.

“Shraddha’s father also said that we have no idea where to go and we could have saved her if anyone had facilitated a conversation with her. People don’t know at all where to go in such a situation and the panel is there for facilitation.” He said that.
