Nagpur: Nearly two days after TOI reported on Subhash Chaudhari, vice-chancellor of Nagpur University, on the recommendations of the probe panel against Dharmesh Dhawankar, former head of the mass communication department, The former has instructed his subordinates to set up a departmental enquiry (DE) on Monday.

vice chancellor ordered

Nagpur University officials have told that before going to Indore for NAAC meeting the Vice-Chancellor had also ordered his subordinates to constitute departmental enquiry as per the recommendation of a one-member fact-finding committee headed by retired Justice Ajay Chafle. And at the same time handing over the charge to Pro-VC Sanjay Dudhe, the VC has also given him the task of finding a suitable person who can investigate Dharmesh Dhawankar.

NU accusing him of extorting Rs 5.50 lakh

Officials have also said that the DE should ideally have been run by a person who was much higher in rank than Ajay Chafle. “A retired High Court judge or a former VC or Pro-VC must conduct an inquiry. We are in great need of a man of impeccable integrity as well, Because Dharmesh Dhawankar has very strong contacts in political circles in Mumbai and Delhi and can exert pressure to get a clean chit. He did this once in 2010 when the Justice Mardikar inquiry report had completely mysteriously disappeared from the NU Almirah. And at the same time, with the help of the former registrar, he had also constituted another panel, which completely absolved him of all charges,” They said.

TOI had also reported on January 14 how Subhash Chaudhari sat on the Ajay Chafle report for more than a week.

Even the allegations against Dharmesh Dhawankar were raised by seven heads of different departments of NU accusing him of extorting Rs 5.50 lakh from him on the pretext of protecting them from sexual harassment complaints filed against them by students from their respective departments.
