Nagpur: Residents of 84% in the (NMC) Nagpur Municipal Corporation area have acquired antibodies against the coronavirus with the help of infection or covid vaccination. Whereas the highest sero positivity 88% was recorded in the Dhantoli area. And even then the second sero survey of district Nagpur showed, with about 87% each in the zones of Dharampeth and Laxmi Nagar, In which zone-wise survey of the city was also included.
About 75% of the people in Nagpur Rural have developed immunity against the coronavirus. It has also been learned from the survey, the results of which were released by the Divisional Commissioner’s office here on Tuesday. The total figure of district Nagpur is around 80%.
The data assumes significance as the survey was conducted in September 2021 after the second wave of covid subsided. Since about 84% of people tested also have antibodies, Because of this it can also be concluded that if this virus attacks once again, then they have protection from the virus. And in other words, many of these people will not have very severe infections at all or will need oxygen support in case they are once again infected with the novel covid.
In the official statement of Prajakta Lavangare-Verma Divisional Commissioner, it has been said that there is still no concrete data to indicate that the presence of antibodies to coronavirus is also protective against re-infection.
The statement also said that with the emergence of completely new forms, the possibility of re-infection may increase even more. All Peoples living in district Nagpur is also advised to follow coronavirus appropriate behaviour.
The second survey expanded
The survey was conducted to know the prevalence of coronavirus antibodies in district Nagpur from 20 October to 27 November. And as part of the survey, blood samples were collected at random from this entire district and also tested for the presence of antibodies.
The designing of sero survey protocol, compilation, training of staff, and analysis of data was done by the Department of Community Medicine of GMCH, and logistics support was provided by District Collector and Nagpur Municipal Commissioner.
The scope of the second survey was also expanded in comparison to the first. Nor has the number of subjects only been increased from about 4,000 to 6,100, Rather, the age groups covered have also been revised. And this time, participants from all age groups above the age of 6 were also included, as opposed to just 18 at the time of the first survey.
The Divisional Commissioner has said that people should get themselves tested and isolated very early if they develop any symptoms like shortness of breath, cough, fever, or any other way treating doctors advice.
