More than 73,000 covid vaccinations were recorded in the district on Tuesday. Long queues and chaotic scenes have been witnessed at most of the covid vaccination centres.
Nagpur: The doses of covid vaccination centres were exhausted by noon on Tuesday as a large number of eligible adults turned out after rumors that the government would stop free jabs from 1st December.
More than 73,000 covid vaccinations were recorded in the district on Tuesday.
Very long queues and chaotic scenes have been witnessed at most of the covid vaccination centres. Queues were also formed in the areas when the teams of ‘Har Ghar Dastak’ arrived to run this campaign.
Ashi Nagar, Dharampeth and Dhantoli areas of the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) have had to deploy over 35 nuisance investigation teams (NDS) personnel at different centers to control the crowd.
At many centres, the authorities had to close the gates to prevent crowding in the premises. And people sat on the floor waiting for jobs elsewhere.
For the first time, the beneficiaries have reported that It was the last day of free covid vaccination. Which he didn’t want to miss at all. Individuals who were not vaccinated against covid said they were fit, had never had any infections in the past 2 years, and did not need a jab at all. Right now it is mandatory, due to which it cannot be extended any further.
No expectation of heavy voting
Suraj Tembhurne, a resident of Kamptee Cantonment, had come to Ambedkar Hospital in Indore in search of a center that was very less crowded. And then later he went to Nagpur Municipal Corporation’s Pachpauli Maternity Home. Where the covid vaccination center was also facing the huge crowd.
A 90-year-old woman could hardly walk with the help of a walker and her daughter. She too had reached that center. The daughter has said that no one who vaccinated covid came to the house. Because of this we have brought her from Jaripakta.
For the past several years, on average, about 100 people were reaching the vaccination centers of covid. The numbers have also increased in the last two days.
Additional Municipal Commissioner Ram Joshi has told that till a day earlier there was no expectation of very heavy voting. He has also said that our first dose of covid daily averaged around 9 to 10,000. Suddenly on Monday, its first dose of covid had reached about 17,000. And it is expected to be more or less by the evening of Tuesday. We have enough dosage to meet the demand for 5 days of covid vaccination. Let’s say more than one lakh. Whichever center was lacking the dose of covid, we diverted the stock from nearby centres. And the supply is also continuous and the stock is replenished every week.
These centers also did not expect that they would see such a huge crowd. Additional staff was also deployed at very heavily congested centres.
