Cotton growers will violate government ban on HT Bt cotton, agitation from May 1

Rajendra Zotting has also said that there is about 5.5 lakh hectares of land suitable for cotton cultivation in Yavatmal district.

Yavatmal: District President of Shetkari Sanghatana, Rajendra Zotting also said in a press release on Friday that the producers of district Yavatmal cotton will completely violate the government’s excessive restrictions on HT Bt cotton and will also start agitation from the date of May 1 regarding their demands.

Rajendra Zotting has also said that there is about 5.5 lakh hectares of land suitable for cotton cultivation in Yavatmal district. Along with this there are about 100 ginning and pressing units in the district, Which produces about 14-15 lakh cotton bales every year. And although there has been a very steep decline in the production of cotton, Which has forced these units to work to the extent of about 50% of their own capacity.

Rajendra Zotting has said that farmers were now waiting for the green signal from the center to cultivate HT Bt cotton. But till now the state government has not received any such approval from the Centre.

The organization’s spokesperson Vijay Naval has said that in the same year there was a lot of demand for cotton at a high price, But the farmers have not been able to get the benefit at all due to a significant decline in production. They will strongly encourage their own brothers in the district to follow through with the organization’s decision.

State Mahila Aghadi President Pradnya Bapat has said that they will definitely fight for the freedom of technical knowledge, Also saying that no government can stop them from choosing any seed variety at all. District President Rajendra Joting, District Mahila Morcha also President Sonali Margade and others have urged the cotton growers across the district to join the agitation for the date of May 1. And support them by fully adopting the cultivation of HT Bt cotton on a very large scale also.
