Nagpur: Security has been beefed up at the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) headquarters in Nagpur after a bomb threat was received by an unknown person.
According to sources, a person called a special number of the police control room at around 1 pm on Saturday and then threatened to blow up the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh headquarters in the palace. And after that, the person immediately disconnected the call. Then the staff of the control room informed the senior police officers about the threat call.
CP Amitesh Kumar said that it was a voice call. The caller said that there would be a blast in the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh today. We are ascertaining the source and cause, he added.
“Patrolling has been intensified as a precautionary measure. We are tracing the phone number to identify the caller.” said a senior police officer of Nagpur city police. Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar could not be reached for comment.
Very soon, senior police officers reviewed the security of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh headquarters. A bomb detection and disposal squad and a dog squad were pressed into service, but the threat turned out to be a false call as nothing suspicious was found.
Taking no chances, the security around the campus has also been beefed up.
City police solved a similar case
Police have been deployed on the route leading to the Sangh headquarters. All are being intensively searched and questioned, sources say.
Meanwhile, the cyber department of the city police has also started an investigation to identify the unknown caller. However, sources also expressed a lot of surprise as to how the caller got the special number of the police control room.
A senior police officer at Kotwali police station told TOI that as a very important establishment, the security at the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh premises is always on alert. Apart from the deployment of local police, CISF, Quick Reaction Team (QRT), and State Reserve Police Force personnel are deployed there on a daily basis. he said. “The RSS headquarters is guarded by the Central Industrial Security Force, while Nagpur city police personnel manage the security of its outer perimeter,” he said.
About a month ago, the city police also solved a similar case. In which a 44-year-old deputy engineer of the Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission Company had also written a letter threatening to blow up the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh headquarters. He had also sent a letter from the Zero Mile Speed Post outlet on the date of 24th November. After scanning footage from over 250 CCTV cameras, the same person was taken into custody by the city police on 30 November.
