Remove IAS officer Deepak Kapoor from Maharashtra Airport Development Company: Vidarbha Economic Development

Nagpur: The Vidarbha Economic Development (VED) Council has demanded that IAS officer Deepak Kapoor be removed as the vice-chairman-managing director of the Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC).
A state government agency, MADC is also the developer of the MIHAN project, which consists of a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) and a Domestic Tariff Area (DTA). The idea of MIHAN was mooted by Vidarbha Economic Development almost two decades ago, after which it was completely taken up by the state government.
The project may not be fully developed yet at all. Vidarbha Economic Development is an NGO which is also working on ideas for the development of the area. Currently, it is also part of the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) for MIHAN.
Organization has prepared a proposal to develop a tourism sector
In a letter to Union Transport Minister and Member of Parliament from Nagpur, Nitin Gadkari, VED has said that Kapoor should be removed with immediate effect. The letter also states, “A full-time competent person should be appointed in his place who takes full responsibility for his actions. This will end corruption, work will be smooth, unit holders will be happy and investors will come forward to generate employment.”
It has also been said in VED’s letter that a lot of land is lying unusable in Mihan. Against the target of creating about 2 lakh jobs, only 25,000 jobs have been created so far. It is also being alleged that with Kapoor visiting Nagpur less, a local caucus has become involved in corruption. VED President Devendra Parekh has also said that the organization has prepared a proposal to develop a tourism sector in the SEZ.
“Here, aging populations from overseas can be attracted. It is very cold between October and March in Europe and America, and senior citizens can spend time in the Mihan area. “The idea is to build star hotels, youth hostels, medical facilities including naturopathy, so that tourists from abroad can be attracted for longer stay here. It can be used as a hub to access tiger reserves, which are within 100 km radius from the city,” They said.
