Bilaspur Startups, Kolkata Studios Increase in Central Railway Revenue

Nagpur: Central Railway (CR), Nagpur Division has commissioned a Bilaspur startup to install around 49 fare repeater screens at various booking-cum-reservation counters. And has also been contracted to operate. Which will go a long way in generating around Rs 24 lakh non-fare revenue and saving around Rs 14 lakh.
These fare repeaters will go a long way in helping the passengers to check the ticket fare while making the payment of this amount and also know the name of the clerk who issued them.
The division has also awarded around three contracts to a Kolkata-based studio company to brand about 15 locomotives at Ajni Loco Shed with revenue of around Rs 1.60 crore in about five years. Along with express and mail trains, there will be branding on the exterior of the locomotives running across the country.
A railway official has also said that the locomotives will get a very lively look. Along with this, the branding of locos will also benefit the private players immensely due to the wide exposure of the trains.
Monetizing various railway assets
Nagpur Division of Central Railway has also signed four contracts in the first week of April under the manager of Divisional Railway, Richa Khare. Due to this, it has helped a lot in earning revenue of about Rs 1.84 crore. In the past, Central Railway had signed contracts with Haldiram to brand around five locomotives at Ajni Loco Shed for about three years, Due to which revenue of about Rs 54 lakh has also been received.
The commercial team led by divisional commercial manager Vijay C Thool, chief commercial inspector Tara Prasad Acharya and senior divisional commercial manager Krishnath Patil has been instrumental in generating non-rental revenue through about four contracts.
The official said that with a view to monetizing various railway assets, the commercial team is currently focusing heavily on passenger amenities and other innovative contracts to generate non-fare revenue. About Rs 1.94 crore in non-fare revenue was also generated last year. Which was about 8.32% more than the target of 1.79 crores and about 144.5% more than the previous year.
