City autorickshaw drivers demand revision in tariff

The Autorickshaw Drivers Federation of Kshetra Vidarbha has submitted a memorandum to the Regional Transport Office in the city.

Nagpur: Citing the rise in fuel prices, autorickshaw drivers in the city have demanded a revision in the tariff, which has not been done since 2014.

The Autorickshaw Drivers Federation of Kshetra Vidarbha has submitted a memorandum to the Regional Transport Office in the city. In which it has been said that due to the rising prices of these fuels. There is a dire need to revise the current Rs.14 for the first km. And then up to Rs.11 for each subsequent kilometer.

Secretary Prince Ingle and Federation president Vilas Bhalekar have said that these auto drivers can charge up to Rs 14 for the first km. And this fare was fixed at the time when petrol was a little over Rs 70 per liter. And now it has crossed almost Rs 110.

Deputy RTO Ravindra Bhuyar has called a joint meeting with the consumer forum. And other organizations and assured them to consider the demand. And according to the rules, the RTO will also prepare the proposal related to the increase. Which will be submitted by the Regional Transport Authority’s chairperson and District Collector Vimala R.

Demanded More Auto Parking Stands

Recognizing that the presence of metered autorickshaw drivers is almost negligible. And Vilas has blamed enforcement agencies like the RTO and the city’s traffic police. He has also claimed that even the passengers in district Nagpur do not want to travel in this metered auto at all.

He has said that because of the official-auto driver nexus, no one is applying the ply to meter rule at all. And as a result of which more than 3 passengers are in an auto.

Vilas has also said that the federation has also demanded more auto parking stands across the city.

In the same year, from January 1 to November 28, the traffic police of Nagpur city has punished the drivers of about 80 autorickshaws for not running with meters at all. Same period last year, about 204 drivers were challenged by the police officers.

In the past, both these enforcement agencies had run several campaigns to ply the drivers of autos with meters. However, due to the inconsistency in many of their efforts, all drives have become a damp squib.
