Except Nagpur, no sample from Vidarbha found Omicron +ve
State Surveillance Officer Dr. Pradip Awate has said that several samples from Yavatmal, Akola, and Amravati as well as Bhandara and Gondia were sent for genome sequencing in the last 2 weeks.
Nagpur: People from other districts of the region are also very worried after a corona patient admitted in Nagpur tested positive for the Omicron virus variant. However, as far as the samples sent for genome sequencing from Bhandara, Amravati, Buldhana, Yavatmal, and Akola are concerned, none of the districts has received omicron virus-positive reports.
State Surveillance Officer Dr. Pradip Awate has said that several samples from Yavatmal, Akola, and Amravati as well as Bhandara and Gondia were sent for genome sequencing in the last 2 weeks. And most of them belonged to the Delta version.
As per custom, the concerned district administration shortlists the samples and sends them for genome sequencing. If this sample comes positive, then the Public Health Department of the state announces it with the help of release and also informs its concerned collector. The samples sent from the Vidarbha region in the first week of December were negative, officials confirmed. Results of 5 samples sent from district Amravati are still pending and are expected to come in the next 2 days.
Still prevalent in Vidarbha
As per government guidelines, the Vidarbha region is also expected to send around 1,100 samples for genome sequencing every month. However, this area is not reporting so many positive cases for the last 4 months at all. As a result, most of the district administrations are sending all positive samples for genome sequencing.
Dr. Apurva Parate of GMCH, Akola has said that all the samples we have sent for genome sequencing are of delta type, which is still prevalent in Vidarbha. We can ship up to 100 samples in 1 month. It is for this reason that we have decided to send every positive sample for genome sequencing.
Anand Thatte, the Epidemiologist, said genome sequencing is practiced to confirm the variant thoroughly and does not have any effect on the treatment protocol. Treatment is the same for each type. There is absolutely no such thing as a separate treatment protocol for Omicron or even Delta. Even preventive COVID-appropriate behavior remains the same. For this reason, the common people should not think much about it at all and should continue to follow the preventive measures well.
