Excise dept now to take strict action against the illegal liquor sale in Nagpur
It is a common practice to see the Election Commission to pass diktat strict against the illegal distribution of liquor sale in cities and towns just before the elections. So as the date for the Maha Assembly was announced in the media by the commission, the City Excise Department seems to be gearing up to take strict action against the illegal liquor sale in the city. The department has now drafted a manifesto to slash down the illegal production and sales of liquor just before the Assembly polls.
As per reports, the draft intends to clamp down the 20 illegal liquor hubs in the city that have been supplying the drinks within and outside the city. The officials are going to take tight action against these illegal hubs to avoid any kind of nuisance during and after the elections in Nagpur. The department has formed a patrol team which would be mapping these areas.
At the same time, the dhabas, hotels and restaurants that sell the illegal liquor to people have been issued a warning against it. It also said that the officials would be keeping an eye over the illegal action against the people who violate and would be nabbed under the Sections 68 (B) of State or Maharashtra Prohibition Act 1949. It states to find the accused the amount of 25,000 or sentence imprisonment of not less than three years. All the sellers now have to acquire the license to sell the drinks inside the city from DC’s office.
