Nagpur: Around 1,000 ‘S’ Gene Target Failure (SGTF) kits will be provided to the Indira Gandhi Government Medical College and Hospital and Government Medical College and Hospital VRDL (Viral Research Diagnostic Laboratories) for omicron virus surveillance in the city to test samples, most primarily from international travelers.
Since these kits are not available in abundance at all, Because of this, both the laboratories are likely to process the samples collected by the private laboratories as well. This kit is also likely to help the administration to focus more on the suspects from a very large number of samples.
This decision was taken during a coronavirus review meeting at the Divisional Commissioner’s office on Monday.
District Collector Vimala R has also told that an order of about 1,000 kits has also been placed in an institute in Hyderabad, which is exclusively manufacturing them. It has also been said that not every international traveler will be tested with the brand new kit, but only the suspects will be tested.
Divisional commissioner whose name is Prajakta Lavangare-Verma. He has said that every single positive sample from this district will be sent for genome sequencing till the kit arrives.
Tested using new kit
Professor and Head of the Department of Microbiology Dr. Meena Mishra, AIIMS, Nagpur, has said that the only available RT-PCR kits can tell whether a sample is positive for coronavirus or not.
Official sources have also said that initially this kit will be made available only to Indira Gandhi Government Medical College and Hospital and Government Medical College and Hospital.
At the time of the meeting, the officers of Viral Research Diagnostic Laboratories in charge have also been asked whether they will process the samples of private labs.
Meanwhile, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation has started testing passengers arriving on the Sharjah-Nagpur flight and even all foreign passengers who are entering from other Indian cities. And a completely private lab is also doing RT-PCR tests of passengers. There is no SGTF kit in this lab at all. Along with this, samples of 3 passengers who have tested positive will also be sent for genome sequencing.
