Its been a long wait for the Nagpur University or the Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University to issue its ad for a new VC. Yes, you heard it right, finally, the university has now invited the new applications for the said post of the Vice-Chancellor. As per reports, the Search Committee for the said post has been headed by the retired High Court Judge Dilip Bhosale who is the Chairman of the SC apart from having people like Principal Secretary of Maharashtra Government’s Water Resources Department Sanjay Chahande as Secretary.
The Nagpur University’s Academic Council and Management Council seem to have nominated its Director of IIT Kanpur Abhay Karandikar. The current term of present V-C, Dr S P Kane will be soon going to end on April 7. However, the new V-C is likely to be chosen soon at the end of May. The Search Committee was then seen issuing an ad on March 20, while the last date for submission of the applications is on April 20. The selection will be done by the strict scrutiny of the applications as carried out by the Search Committee with the help of a panel of five candidates to the Chancellor.
The process for choosing will follow an interview by five members of the committee as per the Maharashtra Public Universities Act which hints on starting the selection procedure around six months before the appointment. However, this procedure seemed to get delayed with the ongoing elections in the state and other engagements. The nomination would take place soon seeking the appointment with Dr R Premkumar, Registrar of IIT Bombay, Powai who has been appointed the Nodal Officer.
