NMC fixes over 49,000 potholes in 4.8 years
The data received from the Public Works Department of Nagpur Municipal Corporation shows that the condition of roads falling under the Laxmi Nagar area was pathetic.
Nagpur: At one point of time people are complaining about the poor condition of these roads, Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has claimed to have fixed more than 49,000 potholes in the city in the last 4 years and 8 months with the help of its hotmix plant and 2 private agencies. This means that Nagpur Municipal Corporation is repairing about 27 potholes every day for the past 56 months.
The data received from the Public Works Department of Nagpur Municipal Corporation shows that the condition of roads falling under the Laxmi Nagar area was very pathetic. And the Hotmix Department has repaired about 7,746 potholes in this zone from April 1, 2017, to November 28, 2021.
The Nagpur Municipal Corporation has claimed to have repaired more than 5,700 potholes in the Mangalwari area. Under Ashi Nagar and Dharampeth areas, the department has also repaired more than 5,000 potholes on different roads.
Citizens expressed concern over Nagpur Municipal Corporation repairing so many bad potholes and still no improvement in the condition of the roads. Citizen activist and Secretary of Parivartan-The Citizens Forum named Dinesh Naidu. He has said that many Nagpur Municipal Corporation should be ashamed because there are too many potholes on everyone in district Nagpur. And this shows that these roads are not at all on the priority list of the elected members of the Nagpur Municipal Corporation.
He has said that once this city was known only for its roads, but today the situation is completely different, most of the roads in the city are in very bad condition.
He has also said that the elected representatives are too busy taking credit for cement roads, flyovers, and metro rail, but no one is showing any concern for the pathetic condition of the roads.
Traffic police identified 75 bad roads
Angry motorist Piyush Janbandhu echoed Naidu, saying that government agencies like NHAI, NMC, NIT, and state PWD maintain the city’s roads. And they cannot at all shy away from their responsibility of keeping the potholes free from the roads. And at the same time, he has also pointed to the repair works of bad potholes on some roads and also cited the example of a stretch in front of Rashtrasant Tukdoji Maharaj Apartment.
He has also claimed that due to poor repair work, there are still potholes on the roads.
The city traffic police had also contacted the Nagpur Municipal Corporation and submitted a list of about 75 roads across the city that were in dire condition. A senior inspector of the traffic police wing has said that out of about 75 roads, many sections are located outside the corporation limits and its concerned government agencies were also informed to repair these damaged roads.
According to traffic police data, the worst-hit roads were in Sitabuldi and Sadar traffic zones in 13 and 12 different parts.
Roads in 9 road patches of the Indora zone were also in poor condition, the traffic report showed. Sonegaon and Kamptee traffic zones had also identified 7-7 bad stretches in their own zones.
There were also 6 bad stretches under Sakkardara, MIDC, and Lakdaganj traffic zones, while Ajni zone and Cotton Market identified 5 bad stretches. Which also needs corrective measures.
