Outstanding fine of Rs 15.23 crore on traffic violators in the city
In the last nearly four months, the traffic police had nabbed around 3,59,562 motorists for violating the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, And also issued an e-challan imposing a fine of about Rs 20.23 crore.
Nagpur: Data received from the office of DCP (Traffic) Sarang Awad shows that between the date of January 1 to April 30, 2022. About 3,59,552 motorists got e-challans issued for violating various traffic rules in the city. And Only about 91,781 have paid out of them. The data also revealed that the cumulative unpaid fines in the city are over Rs 15.23 crore.

However, out of them, only 91,781 violators have paid a total fine of Rs 5 crore and more than Rs 15.23 crore has not been paid at all.
Even in the year 2021, the traffic police of Nagpur city had issued about 9,74,406 e-challans, In which a fine of more than Rs 35.72 crore had been imposed. But only 4.25 lakh violators had paid a fine of about Rs 12.98 crore. Whereas about 5,48,496 violators had not paid the fine up to Rs 22.74 crore at all. Also last year, the police had sent about 1,974 unpaid challans to the Motor Vehicles Court as well. Where these violators were also called there to be present.
Suggested suspension of driving licenses of violators
In the last four months of the same calendar year, it had sent about 4,206 e-challans to the MV Court. The traffic police, through their special blockades across the city, collected around Rs 10.97 crore in unpaid fines from around 2,03,419 violators in the past 16 months.
He has said that the traffic experts, expressing great concern over the increasing e-challan fines, have also raised questions on the entire e-challan system. Simultaneously, a system should also be introduced with the integration of vehicle numbers with bank accounts. So that the traffic police can go a long way in collecting the unpaid fines.
Experts also suggested suspension of driving licenses of violators to bring discipline on city roads. The need for implementation of very stringent measures like 100% recovery of fines etc. has also been emphasized.
