Right to Education portal crash, parents upset

Nagpur: The continuous collapse of the Right to Education (RTE) in the last several days has created a lot of panic among the parents who had applied for free school admission for their children. And the education department has also officially accepted that their server is facing heavy traffic.
The Education Department also conducted an online lottery for admission to free schools on the date of April 5. Parents have time till April 25 to verify the documents and complete the admission process.
But due to technical problems with the RTE website, the parents had to contact the education officials. Finally, on Tuesday, the education department issued a public notice and confirmed the technical fault.
Director of Education (Elementary) Sharad Gosavi has also said that the portal was facing excessive load.
The official has requested the parents not to panic at all as their child will not lose out on the lottery seat due to this temporary technical glitch. Gosavi has also said that the parents have enough time available to complete the document verification process and then complete the admission formalities.
After the online lottery for the selection of the students
RTE activist Shahid Sharif has also said that the education department should extend the deadline for completing the admission process. “Parents are required to collect documents and many times the authorities do not cooperate with them at all. For this reason, the government should give more time to the parents to submit the required documents,” Shahid Sharif said.
A parent who faced a problem connecting to the portal also told TOI that the government should make provision for more servers during this very crucial phase. “Given that millions of people across the state are logging into the site, It is common sense that special arrangements should be made,” said the parent, who did not wish to be identified.
Even after the online lottery for the selection of the students, the parents are informed about it through SMS. The allotted school then waits for the parents to physically arrive and submit the documents (birth certificate, Aadhaar card, address proof, etc.) to complete the actual admission process.
