The additional population consists mainly of migrants who have received the vaccine in Nagpur itself but are native to other districts/states/divisions.

Nagpur: On Tuesday, the civic body claimed that the NMC has exceeded the target of the first dose by the date of 29 March. And has also vaccinated at least 3% more citizens than its target.

The additional population consists mainly of migrants who have received the vaccine in Nagpur itself but are native to other districts/states/divisions.

Meanwhile, Nagpur Municipal Corporation has also released the age-group-wise coverage of vaccinations received by the city. City commissioner Radhakrishnan B has appealed to all these eligible senior citizens to take their booster dose (precautionary dose) as the campaign is yet to gain momentum.

The Municipal Commissioner has said that there is an urgent need for every eligible person in Nagpur city to come forward to complete their vaccination properly. Everyone should get both doses and also frontline workers, health workers, and citizens over the age of 60. Those who have completed about 9 months from their second dose of covid should now proceed to get a booster dose.

Boosters for covid vaccination

Maharashtra’s district-wise vaccination data for covid was also released on the date of March 29. About 73.90% of the total population of this state has been fully vaccinated against covid. Of the total 35 districts in Maharashtra, about 15 have performed much better than the state average. Nagpur (75.27%), Wardha (74.26%), Chandrapur (79.99%), and Gondia (77.35%) follow.

In the Nagpur division, Gadchiroli is the only district (67.87%) that is behind the state average. The performance of Gadchiroli is much better than the districts of the Amravati Division, another part of the Vidarbha region.

All these five districts of Amravati’s division are still lagging behind in covid vaccination. Akola comes second in the entire state, where 53.30% of the total population is fully vaccinated against covid. Yavatmal (59%), Amravati (59.83%), and Buldhana (55.8%) still have to vaccinate around 60% of their population with both COVID doses.

Washim, with about 66.54%, is the only district in the Amravati division to have exceeded the target of about 60% complete immunization. These data also show that the Amaravati division has to do a lot on the front of covid vaccination. The response to boosters for covid vaccination of the child age group and around 60 in the Amravati division is even worse. Ironically, this was the same area from where the delta version of the coronavirus is said to have emerged as the delta wreaked havoc during the second wave of covid.
