They are accused of that they have extorted more than Rs 15 lakh from the heads of seven departments by promising to completely settle the complaints of sexual harassment allegedly received by them from the students of their departments.

Along with this, in his letter to the state’s Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil, Gorhe has also questioned the necessity of payment of money by seven department heads under similar fear or threats. “They could have complained to the police without the fear of Dharmesh Dhawankar demanding ransom. One has to think why the ransom money was given. A thorough investigation is needed in this matter. It should be investigated whether some girls were not exploited earlier in Nagpur University and the matter was suppressed by taking money,” he said.

Dharmesh Dhawankar is yet to respond to the show cause notice issued

Dharmesh Dhawankar, who is also from the Department of Mass Communication, was also holding charge of Public Relations Officer at NU. He has allegedly cheated the HOD in his capacity as PRO only, Out of which he has already been freed by Vice Chancellor Subhash Chowdhary after these allegations came to the fore.

The heads of departments have also alleged that Dharmesh Dhawankar extorted money on the pretext of settling several cases of sexual harassment lodged against him by students.

Gorhe’s letter read, “I am also requesting you to set up a Special Investigation Team in this matter.” Gorhe has also said that he is soon going to hold a meeting with senior officials of the state government on this issue.

Dharmesh Dhawankar is also yet to respond at all to the show cause notice issued by the Vice-Chancellor, who gave him three days to respond. Dhawankar also continues to take regular classes and attend college as usual, even though the matter is in the limelight.
