Non-segregated waste can rot at your door
The civic body is now exploring the possibility of levying fines on households and commercial establishments that do not segregate garbage despite repeated reminders.
Nagpur: From Thursday the NMC (Nagpur Municipal Corporation) is all set to completely stop the collection of non segregated waste from commercial establishments and homes. The civic body is also exploring the possibility of levying fines on commercial establishments and households that do not segregate waste even after being told many times.
Nagpur Municipal Corporation Additional Municipal Commissioner Ram Joshi has informed that since Thursday, instructions have been given to 2 private agencies and 10 areas to stop the collection of non-segregated waste. He has said that we expect full cooperation from the people.
Dr. Gajendra Mahalle, the nodal officer for solid waste management, said, About 400 Vehicles have already been partitioned to collect and store the dry and wet waste separately. Instructions have also been given to private agencies that already wet waste from big vehicles should be taken to Bhandewadi Dumping Yard, after that dry waste should be done again.
Dr. Gajendra Mahalle has also said that a facility to separate and store dry and wet waste has also been made in the dumping yard. About 200 metric tonnes of wet waste will be given to the treatment plant there. And then the remaining wet waste will be diverted to the windrow on the left side of the yard. Whenever the private agencies are finalized to produce the manure, then it will be treated and reused.
Nuisance Detection Squad
The dry waste will be dumped on the right side of the yard. He has also said that for the last few years, about 150 rag pickers have also been authorized in the yard. It will be much easier for them to select and identify the selected material from the dry waste.
If this plan comes into force, then it will be for the first time that the municipal body will also dump and store dry and wet waste separately in the yard.
According to sources, the Nuisance Detection Squad (NDS) and health department employees will also fine those who dump garbage in the open.
Sources also said that if our employees refuse to collect the non-segregated waste, Then people can try to throw garbage in the open also. Because of this, strict monitoring will also be done in various ways. And we are also now contemplating imposing a fine for not segregating the waste despite repeated reminders.
