SP canceled Tehsildar Deepak Karande’s arms license for firing during the raid

Describing the Tehsildar's act as 'dangerous' and 'irresponsible', Lohit Matani has also sent a proposal for departmental disciplinary action to the District Collector for indiscipline.

Nagpur: Deepak Karande, Tehsildar of Mohadi village of Bhandara district, had recently come into the limelight after firing twice in the air during the raid on Balu Ghat on 2nd November. However, his actions have earned the wrath of SP Lohit Matani, who has proposed to completely cancel his gun license issued by the District Collector.

Describing the Tehsildar’s act as ‘dangerous’ and ‘irresponsible’, Lohit Matani has also sent a proposal for departmental disciplinary action to the District Collector for indiscipline.

Deepak Karande, along with Talathi Vaibhav Jadhav, had also reached Mohdi’s Ret Ghat after receiving information about the theft by the mafia gangs. On reaching the spot, the Revenue Department officials also observed a JCB driver, Later identified as Ranjit Thawkar, who was also loading sand in a tipper truck driven by Vivek Dipte.

It is also understood that sensing trouble, Ranjit Thawkar tried to injure Deepak Karande with a JCB crane and bucket. Simultaneously, Deepak Karande was the first to fire in the air when Thawkar dangerously pulled the JCB bucket toward him.

Then later Karande boarded Vaibhav Jadhav’s bike and started chasing Thawkar and then fired another round in the air. Thawkar has been completely successful in escaping from there. Deepak Karande later lodged a case against Ranjit Thawkar and Vivek Dipte at the Mohadi police station. Also, following a report by the senior inspector and sub-divisional police officer of the Mohadi police station, an inquiry was conducted before Matani proposed disciplinary action against Karande.

Sources have also told that Matani has also said in his report that Karande should have alerted the police and taken them along on the raid. And at the same time, he should have avoided chasing the JCB or firing in the air for the first time.

Lohit Matani has also said in the report that Karande’s firing had created a lot of tension in the area and there could have been a big law and order issue.

When TOI contacted Matani, he flatly refused to share details saying the matter is under investigation. He has also said that the report has been sent to the collector’s office.
