No new coronavirus wave; no restrictions or lockdown needed: Experts
The Indian Medical Association (IMA) National has also issued a special advisory for the people, in which they have specifically suggested only preventive measures.
Nagpur: Due to rising coronavirus cases in many countries like Japan and China, there is no need to panic in India. Infectious disease experts have also said that there is not going to be a fresh wave of Covid-19 in India.
“There is great concern about the current Covid surge in China, although Japan has been reporting far more cases than China since October. This particular outbreak is limited to eastern countries which went crazy with zero covid policy. It was inevitable, irrespective of the variant,” Infectious disease specialist Dr. Nitin Shinde said.
The Indian Medical Association (IMA) National has also issued a special advisory for the people, in which they have specifically suggested only preventive measures.
“With strong infrastructure, dedicated medical manpower, active leadership support from the government and availability of adequate medicines and vaccines in the public as well as private sector, India will be able to manage any eventuality like in the past.” Indian Medical Association reads the statement.
No need to worry until a complete new variant comes along
He said, ‘As of now, the situation is not worrisome and hence there is no need to panic. prevention is better than cure,” reads the statement. A former scientist at the Serum Institute of India said that both the Indian vaccines – Covaxin and Covishield – are capable of fighting any sub-type of the Omicron variant of the novel coronavirus. “There are instances in India where patients infected with BF-7, which has recently mutated in China, were also protected. This shows that we have immunity against this variant as well.” she added.
Experts have also blamed the zero coronavirus policy of countries like China, where cases are rising rapidly. Poor quality vaccines are also being blamed for fresh outbreaks in other countries. Epidemiologist Dr. Anand Thatte has also said that Indians have now developed herd immunity against the novel coronavirus.
“More than 95% have taken two doses of the vaccine, plus many of them have been infected with Omicron, which means we are immune to any sub-variant of Omicron. No need to worry until a complete new variant comes along,” he said.
Government officials have also said that they are going to follow the standard guidelines issued by the Centre. The State Health Ministry had issued a statement on the date of December 22, in which Test-Track-Treat-Vaccination and Covid appropriate behavior has also been advocated as a policy. However, no restriction or mask-mandate has been added to the policy yet.
