States government agree to extend Right to Education admission deadline till May 8
Activist Shahid Sharif has also said that the other issue of parents submitting fake documents continues unabated.
Nagpur: The state government has also extended the school admission deadline till May 8 for seats under the Right to Education (RTE) Act quota. The earlier deadline was April 25, but both parents and education activists have sought an extension to submit the documents.
Activist Shahid Sharif has also said that the other issue of parents submitting fake documents continues unabated. “The most recent incident is of a parent submitting a fake date of birth certificate. Such cases are seen every year when parents forge documents related to income, residential address, caste, etc. Unfortunately, it seems that some government officials are turning a blind eye to such violations.” They said.
Every private unaided school (non-minority) also has to set aside about 25% of seats for the Right to Education quota. This quota is directly filled by the government and the selected students are eligible to study up to class VIII free of cost. The state government also reimburses the schools for such students and economically and socially disadvantaged students are also eligible to apply under the Right to Education quota.
Due to server glitches and heavy rush at the offices
Almost this entire process is now online and is also controlled by the state’s education department. Along with this, parents fill out the application form online in which the preferred school is selected. As per Right to Education norms, preference is given to the students living closest to the school. This is the reason why some parents provide fake address proof.
An online lottery is also organized by the education department. After which the seats are also allotted to the students. These are only provisional admissions and parents will now have to submit physical documents to the schools for seat confirmation.
This was the process of seat confirmation for which April 25 was the last date. However, due to server glitches and heavy rush at the offices from where the documents were to be received, parents have demanded an extension of the deadline.
With the government extending the deadline as well, this will only give the Document Verification Committee more time to check them for authenticity.
