Academics support the government’s move to amend the University Act
Senior academic Baban Taywade has said that it was absolutely right to amend the Act. Because people following a particular ideology were appointed to all the top positions in the universities of Maharashtra.
Nagpur: Even the statutory members of NU, very specifically the members of the Shikshan Manch, are vehemently opposing the amendment to the Maharashtra Public Universities Act, 2016, Some senior academicians have supported the government’s move of MVA, citing the appointment of NU VC Subhash Chaudhari’s.
Senior academic Baban Taywade has said that it was absolutely right to amend the Act. Because people following a particular ideology were appointed to all the top positions in the universities of Maharashtra. It all started with NU, where they kept out a very deserving candidate like economist Vinayak Deshpande, Who had wide experience of working in all positions including Pro-VC and VC’s.
He has also said that if meritorious candidates like Vinayak were appointed in all universities, then such amendments would not be required at all.
It was only after Subhash selection that the issue of his appointment was raised in the cabinet meeting by Energy Minister Nitin Raut. And he was supported by his Congress party colleagues including Revenue Minister Balasaheb Thorat. He was the first to demand amendments to the Act relating to the appointment of VC, He also claimed that some deserving and highly experienced candidates were surprisingly ignored by Koshyari.
BJP’s Allegation MVA
A member of the Senate has said that only after the appointment of VC, Pro-VC and four deans have been made in a similar way. And all these were directly or indirectly connected with the teaching platform. In NU’s other bodies such as the Management Councils and Academia, the Senate, and the Board of Studies (BOS), most appointments are made from the teaching platform. This trend has been followed in other universities as well. Which has angered the ruling allies – Shiv Sena, Congress, and NCP Who was absolutely unable to appoint his followers to all such top posts.
Higher Education Minister Uday Samant had said that misunderstandings are being spread regarding the amendments passed by both the houses of the Maharashtra legislature last month. Denying the BJP’s allegation that the MVA move would curtail the Governor’s powers to appoint a VC,
Coming out in support of the government, a statutory member of district Gadchiroli has said that the Chancellor had already appointed Professor Rajendra Kumar Sharma of IIT Delhi as the VC of Gondwana University, Ignoring other eligible candidates, But Rajendra also completely failed to attend, Due to which the administration has been forced to conduct the process again, In this way the money and precious time of lakhs of taxpayers were wasted.
