Air Pollution in City has cost 3622 Crores
Yes you heard it right, the rise of air pollution city has been rampant and it is growing bad to worse with the passing day. As per reports, the citizens of Nagpur have already paid a whopping amount of 3663 Crores for it apart from paying the additional 116 Crores for Nag River as well. The reports also gave bad news for the availability of green cover in the city which has declined from more than 62 localities in Nagpur.
As per reports, the Dharampeth area remains the greenest in the city followed by other areas in Civil lines. While the worst place is Nehru Nagar which has the least amount of green cover in the city. These figures have been found in the recently released Environment Status Report as prepared by the city environment based research center called NEERI. The institute has carried out the required research for the Nagpur Municipal Corporation.
Sharing the report, Mr. Atya Kapley the head of the research cell and senior principal scientist of NEERi explained the fine details of the report. The reports also suggested the rise of urban heat island in the city due to the excessive roads, highways, flyover and metro construction in the city. The change in rainfall patterns is also responsible for adding fuel to air pollution. Traffic has also contributed to air pollution in a big way. The city lakes too have witnessed a high level of pollution including Nag river, Ambazari Lake, Gandhi Sagar Lake, and Sakkardara Lake.Stay tuned to know more on it with us.
