CBI arrests nine Income Tax employees for fraud in recruitment exam

Nine including two women were produced before the special Central Investigation Bureau court on Tuesday and have been remanded till December 16.

Nagpur: CBI arrests nine employees of the Income Tax (I-T) department. The employee was arrested by the ACB wing of Nagpur in 2012-14 for his alleged role in getting dummy candidates selected in the SSC.

According to CBI, The offense against the 12 was registered by the Anti-Corruption Bureau in March 2018 following a complaint lodged by the Income Tax Department after it confirmed irregularities in the recruitment of these employees from the selection commission examination. And also three have actually appeared in the exam while nine have been selected through dummy candidates.

The accused have been identified as Mukesh Kumar, Chandan Kumar, Manoj Kumar, Rinki Yadav, Sarita, Anil Kumar, Rahul Kumar, Abhay Kumar, Manish Kumar, Pradeep Kumar, and Dharmendra Kumar, all Grade II employees. And Yadav were Stenographers while the rest were Multi Tasking Staff (MTS). All these accused are also natives of Bihar who had applied for the exam from their home state.

CBI team headed by SP MS Khan is yet to start the search

A Scrutiny Committee of SSC had also found a gross mismatch in the credentials, signatures, thumb impressions, and handwriting of the candidates. Following this, the issue has been brought to the notice of their vigilance team, and it is learned.

Samples of his thumbprints, handwriting, and signature had been sent to the Regional Forensic Science Laboratory, which also learned that it has taken them four years to assess and examine them. And the sample of the students who appeared in the examination has also been compared.

“There was a gross mismatch between the nine people selected through the selection commission examination and posted in the I-T department in Nagpur and those who appeared in the selection test. Forensic experts had sent the report to the CBI, following which the arrests took place,” said an official.

It is also learned that searches were also conducted at the residences and offices of the nine accused in the past. A source has even said that his arrest was pending due to the delayed report of the forensic experts.

The CBI team headed by SP MS Khan is yet to start the search for the candidates who helped in the crime by appearing in the examination for the selected candidates.
