Colleges once again question the need for common admission process

There is also an annual run-in for Class XI with those opting for the Common Admission Process (CAP), who also claim that there is absolutely no value addition in any way by mandating all junior college admissions in the city through this system.

Nagpur: At the end of the board exam result season, Nagpur has just begun a very busy admission period for Class XI, and with it a fair share of controversies.

There is also an annual run-in for Class XI with those opting for the Common Admission Process (CAP), who also claim that there is absolutely no value addition in any way by mandating all junior college admissions in the city through this system.

A senior trustee of the school also put it, “The political pressure from the same area was too strong to get it done, so they are off the hook. But Nagpur also remains part of the Common Admission Process because we have been completely unable to build enough pressure.”

While there are quite a few complaints against Common Admission Process in colleges, most are about the actual need for it. “Every year 20,000 seats get vacant. Do you even need a Common Admission Process merit list-based admission process when everyone is going to get admission anyway? This is also understandable when there are 200 applicants for 100 seats. In our case, there are an average of 65 applicants for 100 seats,” Trustee said.

Students can also fill out the online form till the date of 12th June

Let me tell you the second issue is that the CAP schedule also runs for a long time. And colleges also feel that starting the academic session before all the rounds are over can lead to the problem of many students being “left behind”. Another school and junior college trustee said, “Outside city limits, Common Admission Process is not applicable. So, we have colleges that are barely 5 minutes apart, But one comes under CAP while the other does not. Then the latter can take direct admission and also start their academic session from the permissible date, While city colleges may have to wait till a large number of seats are filled.”

With the declaration of Class X results of CBSE and State Boards, the online registration in Common Admission Process is also going on at present. Students can also fill out the online form till the date of 12th June. After which the first merit list will also be declared on the date of 15th June. The same process is also repeated for further rounds till the end of the month of July.
