National Commission for Scheduled Castes seeks action against Bigg Boss 16 contestant Vikkas Manaktala for casteist remarks
The commission has said that it has taken suo motu cognizance of the information received through social media platforms regarding Vikkas Manaktala calling Gautam "neech jati ke log" a low caste person.
The National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) has demanded action against reality show Bigg Boss 16 contestant Vikas Manaktala for his alleged casteist remarks against co-contestant Archana Gautam. The remarks were made during an episode of the TV reality show aired on Wednesday.
In a notice issued to the Government of Maharashtra, State Police, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Endemol India Pvt Ltd, Viacom18 Media Pvt Ltd, and Colors TV, The commission has said that it has taken suo motu cognizance of the information received through social media platforms regarding Vikkas Manaktala calling Gautam “neech jati ke log” a low caste person.
Gautam also contested the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections on a Congress ticket, but was defeated.
As per Indian law, the National Commission for Scheduled Castes also said, “It is clearly an offense punishable under the SC/ST Act, And whereas the Commission has decided to investigate the matter in pursuance of the powers conferred under Article 338 of the Constitution of India.”
The notice states, “You are requested to submit an action taken report to the undersigned within seven days of the receipt of this notice.”
