NMC’s New Door-To-Door Garbage Collection System Crumbles invites the wrath of political parties
As the civic body of the city, NMC rolled out its new system for garbage collection in Nagpur, it seems to have done less good than the bad seen. The newly implemented system of the door to door collection by the NMC in the city seems to have crumbled down as the city residents found too many unlifted garbage that tends to be spilled over the streets. This, however, has invited the wrath of the citizens of Nagpur and the ruling party corporators also joined the agitation.
The agitation was led by a BJP Corporator called Manoj Chafle who is based in Wardhaman Nagar and Lakadganj Ara. He along with the local residents collected near the zonal office of NMC at Lakadganj were seen sporting anti-NMC slogans and messages for the mismanagement carried out by the civic body in their area. They objected as to how the NMC has converted the eight-acre open land in Gandhibagh zone into a garbage transfer station.
The BJP ward councilor also claimed that the complaints have been raised about the issue from day one about the irregular door to door collection of garbage in his area by the local residents. However, this has increased since the new system has come to place leading to the chaos in the area. The people protesting outside the zonal office claimed that the NMC has illegally started using the open area as a garbage point. As the open space is surrounded by colonies and people residing there the spilled garbage is likely to create problems in the city.
