Police arrested seven people for their alleged role in the HSC maths paper leak case

Unconfirmed sources have also claimed that the paper was circulated in another WhatsApp group named Tiger, but this has not come to the fore yet.

NAGPUR: The Buldhana police on Sunday arrested seven people, including two, for their alleged role in the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) Maths paper leak.

Shortly after 10.30 am on Friday, the paper was circulated in a WhatsApp group named Khupia. Unconfirmed sources have also claimed that the paper was circulated in another WhatsApp group named Tiger, but this has not come to the fore yet.

According to Sub-Divisional Police Officer Vilas Yamavar, who is investigating under the supervision of SP Sarang Awad, Zakir Hussain Junior College, Lonar’s teacher and examination center in-charge Abdul Akhil Abdul Munaf and his deputy Ankush Chavan have been arrested on Sunday.

Ganesh Nagre, Pawan Nagre and Ganesh Palwe from Bhandari village, Gopal Shingne from Shedurjan and Gajanan Ade from Kingaon Jattu were earlier arrested by the Sakharkherda police of Sindhkhed Raja taluka of Buldhana.

The police have taken Palwe, Shingne, Ganesh, Pawan, and Ade on remand till March 10.

It is also learned that Akhil and Chavan allegedly leaked the paper and sent it to AD, who owns a private college. Ade allegedly shared the paper in a WhatsApp group Tiger in which the students were.

Sources have also said that the leaked two-page paper later reached Shingne, the exam center in charge, who shared it on the ‘Khupiya’ WhatsApp group.

Palwe picked up the paper from the Khupia group, and reportedly shared it with Pawan, who passed it on to Ganesh, who also owns a private college.

The matter came to light when Ganesh shared the paper with a media person. Police questioned media persons and are trying to trace the main source of the paper leak.

The Buldhana police have also registered offenses of cheating and criminal conspiracy under the Indian Penal Code in the case, besides invoking relevant provisions of the Maharashtra Prevention of Malpractices in the Universities, Boards and other Specified Examinations Act, 1988.

It is also learned that the Maharashtra State Board is also conducting a parallel investigation.
