Prospect of increasing classes propelled Maha to top NEET registrations
Lakshwadeep has also registered the least for NEET, with only 361 students filling the form.
Nagpur: Maharashtra accounts for more than 10% of the total registration in NEET-UG, this year alone around 2.77 lakh students have also filled the forms for the medical entrance exam. And Uttar Pradesh also comes in the second spot with around 2.73 lakh students registering for the exam. And a total of 20.8 lakh students had also registered for NEET-UG which was already conducted in the month of May.
Lakshwadeep has also registered the least for NEET, with only 361 students filling out the form. So profound is Maharashtra and UP’s dominance of the charts that number three looks like the proverbial ‘mere speck’ on the horizon. Rajasthan, which is home to the coaching hub of Kota, had only 1.48 lakh registrations.
Owners of coaching classes also believe that NEET registration numbers are also increasing in Maharashtra because of the growing base of coaching institutes in Nagpur, Pune, and Mumbai.
NEET-UG is also an offline exam unlike JEE
The owner of a coaching class in Nagpur also said, “Though I have not read these figures at all, it didn’t surprise me at all in any way. Maharashtra has emerged as a coaching hub in the last decade. There are many cities in our state which can be classified as ‘major cities’. Pune, Mumbai, and Nagpur have developed a very good foundation over the years and it is working to our advantage.”
Another class owner also said, “Local, homegrown brands have single-handedly built the coaching industry here in Nagpur. Because of our efforts to lay such a strong foundation and give consistent results, students from different parts of the country come here for coaching. Due to this, franchisees of national level coaching classes have been established in Nagpur.”
NEET-UG is also an offline exam unlike JEE, the engineering entrance exam. It is conducted only once in a year unlike JEE, which is conducted multiple times.
